More Ronaldinho “Speculations”

According to Italian Newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”; with the exception of one player, AC Milan has been running 2 a days for the last two weeks.

That one player not practicing with the team is no one other than Ronaldinho, according to the paper, Ronaldinho has been training by himself on a “personalized schedule” in hopes of catching up to the fitness of the rest of the team.

Okay, let see, should we look at the upside or the downside?

At this point we’ve all heard the rumor of the garment manufacturer, we’ve seen the video of him on stage with 50 Cent, heard about the maid being told that her services at the Ronaldinho house would no longer be needed, we’ve seen the pictures of him rocking the white speedos and a gut that would make the original Ronaldo jealous…

And do we even need to mention the comments by MLS execs like Dave Checketts or Tom Payne?

By now we are all tired of the speculations and the rumors, but lets look at this for a second, if we focus on the upside, Ronaldinho joining MLS is looking more and more like it’s going to happen, after all why else would he be training by himself? Right?

So whats the downside?

Well, I am glad you asked!

Ronaldinho, who is he now? who are we getting? and what are we giving up in return? or should I say WHO are we giving up in return?

We are getting a guy that is possibly SO out of shape that they had to set him aside and customize a schedule that would bring him to the “fitness level” of the rest of the team!

And how exactly does this deal get worked out? nevermind I am not even going into the economics of this because quite honestly, trying to figure out the MLS DP rules will make your brain explode!

But I will ask this, if you are an LA Galaxy fan… wait, let me rephrase that, if you are a fan of MLS and US Soccer, how much are you willing to give up for Dinho? Would you trade him for Landon Donovan and a truck load of transfer cash?

Think about that for a minute, as much as MLS loves to jump on a rumor, whether its a player going over seas or the rumor that a player is coming to the league, why haven’t they made it official?

Why are they not trying to finalize this deal before the LA Galaxy vs Real Madrid match? I would assume that they would sell another 8-10,000 tickets if they did, right?

Come on, Real Madrid vs Landon Donovan, Ronaldinho, and Edson Buddle! How good would that poster look?

Unless of course, they were planning on trading away the biggest star in the history of our sport in exchange for a one-time Brazilian Superstar (maybe a legend) and a truck load of transfer cash?

So therefore, Landon plays his last match vs Real, and the next day the Club announces his trade to AC Milan for Ronaldinho + buku bucks!

Yeah… I can’t see that happening, specially after MLS told the world that Landon Donovan was not for sale, Don Garber and the rest of the “champs” at AEG would not be as as stupid as to make a deal over a month ago, only to go out and make the “you can’t have him” statement, they would not do this in the middle of the season.

Then again, at one point, AEG did hire Alexi Lalas to run the franchise… Great.
