Man City or Chelsea For Ramires

Benfica’s midfielder Ramires is wanted by Europe’s top clubs with Chelsea and Manchester City leading the race for his signature. After a strong season for the Portuguese champions and Brazil, his departure is highly likely. However, many clubs aren’t prepared to pay the €30m release for clause. For City, money is not a problem, but Chelsea offer Champions League football which has put them in pole position, a move could be announced by the end of the week.

Deco and Ballack have both left Chelsea this summer and Ancelotti wants a young, technical and tactical replacement. Ramires would be the ideal solution, he’s an all round midfielder, not the typical Brazilian, but one who is highly athletic and versatile. The only major concern with the 23 year old is that he lacks the physical strength of a normal Premier League player, but putting him on an intensive muscle program can alter that situation.

Can City’s millions seduce Ramires to become a Citizen? Chelsea are offering him the chance to play for a top class side which plays in the Champions League and challenges for the title. On the other hand, Manchester City have an amibitious squad which are constantly buying quality players and aim to challenge for the title. Furthermore, they can offer Benfica the full transfer and provide a multi million lucrative contract for the Brazilian.

Ramires has 3 options on the table: 1) Stay with Benfica since he’s only played at the club for one year. 2) Join Chelsea and establish himself in one of Europe’s best teams. 3) Sign for Manchester City, receive millions of pounds and probably never win a major title. Despite the intense interest from Chelsea, Ramires will probably stay with the Portuguese champions and continue developing before making the big leap into a more competitive and lucrative league.

After selling Di Maria, Benfica are not prepared to lose any more of their star players. The president will not negotiate with Europe’s richest clubs, however if they meet the elevated release fee clauses, the only option is to sell. The final question is: are Chelsea and Man. City prepared to pay the €30m?
